Conveniently located in west central Pennsylvania, Clearfield County serves as your starting point for exciting adventures throughout the Keystone State.

We invite you to experience our rich recreational and cultural heritage. There's plenty to see and do year-round!

Welcome to the Wilds!

Clearfield County serves as a key entry point into the Pennsylvania Wilds, a 12-county tier in northern Pennsylvania rich in natural splendor and outdoor recreational opportunities.

Wherever you choose to stay during your visit, you are within minutes of a cornucopia of outdoor pleasure, no matter the season. Choices abound:  you can canoe, hike, swim, snowmobile, hunt, fish, go cross-country skiing, explore or just relax in solitude, all right here.

Traveling north on State Route 879 through the Quehanna Wilds area, you can get your first taste of the "PA Wild life."  Enjoy   the scenery while traveling in the other direction as well. A day trip to the southern part of the county will take you through state forests teeming with Mountain Laurel (the state flower), let you hear the drumbeat of a Ruffed Grouse (the state bird) or see a white tailed deer (the state animal).

"Acres of Affordable Family Fun"

There are four state parks within 45 minutes of Clearfield, the county seat, with excellent hiking trails, camping sites and wildlife viewing opportunities.

In addition to camping, swimming and trails to explore, boating enthusiasts can take to the waters of Curwensville Lake, which has no horsepower restrictions.

If you prefer paddle power over horsepower, a canoe or kayak trip down the West Branch of the Susquehanna River can be as easy or as challenging as you like. From Cherry Tree to Karthaus, you can twist and wind your way along water trails once used by Indians and later by enterprising raftsmen.

Bilger's Rocks is a "must see" located just outside of Grampian, with giant sandstone formations and even an ice cave – dress appropriately, because it's always a little cooler at "the rocks."

Our state game lands have ample space and are a great place to view wildlife, whether it's through a camera lens or riflescope.

Clearfield County has several golf courses with a variety of terrains, for golf enthusiasts of all skill levels.  Try them all and pick your favorite!

For family rest and relaxation, there are many community parks throughout the county, perfect for a picnic and playtime.

For your shopping pleasure

DuBois is known throughout the region for its downtown district, filled with unique shops and restaurants to suit every taste.

DuBois Mall boasts many name brand and outlet stores, and is convenient to downtown.

The Clearfield area also provides a variety of dining experiences, whether it's a quick sandwich while shopping or a relaxing meal before an evening on the town.

Our smaller towns and villages have stores and businesses offering many of the same conveniences found in larger areas, but provided with a friendliness and hospitality   all their own.

A well-rounded experience

Museums, exhibits, and outdoor displays around the county are filled with stories about our county's unique social and cultural history, carved by the coal and logging industries.

Visitors can learn about the Civilian Conservation Corps role in state parks at Parker Dam and S.B. Elliot State Parks. Discover coal's contribution to the region by visiting the Coalport Coal Museum.

Live performances at the Reitz Theatre in DuBois and the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre will entertain the entire family. Both present live concerts, plays and other events which feature the area's finest talent.

For the connoisseur, several area wineries provide tours. For those desiring other spirits, many establishments offer food, beverages and entertainment, and a glimpse into the area's nightlife.

Easy to visit, easy to stay

Clearfield County is centrally located, with easy access from I-80. Comfortable hotels, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, service stations and other amenities are conveniently located near the Clearfield and DuBois exits. For those choosing to venture off the beaten path, food and lodging can also be found in many of the county's other communities.

Local bus transportation and car rentals are available for visitors who arrive via Trailways or who fly into Clearfield Lawrence Joint Municipal Airport. If you're flying in, the airport offers reasonably priced hangar storage while you visit; jet fuel and aviation gas are available when you're ready to take off again.
